Compete at the IOW Sprint

If this is your first event you may not have heard of things like the Blue Book or the NCRs. The NCRs as they are now known have replaced the 'Blue Book' and are your comprehensive guide to making sure that your vehicle meets the required safety requirements, you understand the rules for speed events and what safety clothing will be required.

Whilst you can compete in your daily driven car, there are certain rules and regulations that you must adhere to.

The NCRs do receive periodic updates, so it is advisable to make sure you always have the latest version available to you.

The minimum licence entry requirement for any sprint is the RS Interclub (UK Only). Please note you may also be required to obtain additional medical information to support your application, so do not leave it too late to apply — 1st January would be the best time, as the licence runs until 31st December each year. If you are entering the event before you have obtained your competition licence, please put TBC in the box where it asks for licence/competition number.

All competitors will need to belong to a Motorsport UK Club. If you are not a member of one or an associated championship you can join the Isle of Wight Car Club. This will allow you to enter the IOW Sprint and take part in other events around the UK throughout the year. Many IOWCC members compete in rallies, hillclimbs and sprints, time trials, circuit racing and auto testing throughout the UK and Europe. The club's membership year runs 1st January – 31st December.

The IOW Sprint will be an opening round of the Association of Central Southern Motor Clubs (ACSMC) Speed Championship. You do not have to be in the championship to be able to enter the IOW Sprint. This information is just about showing you what other opportunities there are out there for you.

The ACSMC run two championships within the speed discipline, these being sprinting and hill climbing and for the small cost of £5 (per championship) you can compete in either one or both.

They have a busy calendar throughout the season, March/April – October that takes in some fantastic venues, which include the likes of Goodwood Motor Circuit, Castle Combe Motor Circuit, Lydden Hill Race Circuit, Gurston Down and Wiscombe Park — so plenty of opportunity for you to compete at many other events, not just the IOW Sprint.
